Santa Rosa in the Moruca sub-district, Region One, is set to start large-scale citrus cultivation. President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali announced this during a community meeting in Karaburi Village. He stated that 210 acres would be prepared for citrus farming, with the Ministry of Agriculture’s assistance.
The government also plans to boost honey production by providing 25 hives and protective gear to each community. President Ali emphasized investments in cultivating coconut, breadfruit, ginger, and spices in Region One. He assured that the government would support these agricultural projects by preparing land and supplying seeds and planting materials.
Additionally, $10 million has been allocated for dredging the Moruca River to improve transportation. The National Agricultural Research Institute (NAREI) will distribute chemicals to combat pest issues in the region.
President Ali highlighted significant investments in the region, including over $7 billion in the education sector. Since taking office, the government has created over 2,500 jobs through various programs. New nursery and primary school projects are planned, with substantial funding allocated for school construction and rehabilitation.
During his visit, President Ali inaugurated the Karaburi Village Office, Guest House, and a school feeding program kitchen, funded by the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS).
