Awarewaunau is an Amerindian community which was established in the early 1920’s. It is located in the Deep South Rupununi of Region 9. Its population is approximately 600 people mainly of Wapichan decent. The religion is manly Christianity with six different denominations. The residents of the community depend mainly on subsistence farming. The main economic activities are cattle rearing, peanut farming and cassava production.
