Cooperate Guyana has come on board in support of the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs and I-NET Communications’ Donation Drive campaign which continues to provide support to residents of Region eight who are affected by flooding.

Several companies have donated much needed items towards this cause.

The companies that have donated items towards the drive to date are Iwokrama International Centre for Rain Forest Conservation and Development, South Georgetown Leo’s Club, Dunae Trading Company, BAC Couriers, Britney’s Hotel, St. Roses and St. Theresa’s Catholic Churches, Maxi Chung, Amrita Cyril, Mr. James, and Home/ Fresh Fruits/ Greens and Catering Services.

Meanwhile, Administration Manager of the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) Major Marvin Chechester said according to staff on the ground the water level rose significantly over the last 12 hours.

The situation is being closely monitored as two other villages have been under close watch in Kopinang and Chuing Mouth since reports coming out from these villages have indicated rising water levels.

The Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs Friday last provided a quantity of food items, clothing and detergents to the affected families, while according to Major Chechester to date the CDC has distributed 388 hampers.

So far, eight flights were made to the area: four on Saturday, three on Sunday and one on Monday.

There will be flights to the area tomorrow since two hundred additional hampers will be made available for distributed.
