On June 21, 2024, Hon. Minister Pauline Sukhai and Hon. Minister Vikram Bharrat visited Mahdia Sub-district 2, where the Ministry of Natural Resources, in collaboration with the Guyana Geology & Mines Commission (GGMC), hosted a lottery event for miners in the area. During the event, Minister Pauline Sukhai updated residents on the various opportunities related to the mining sector and highlighted ongoing infrastructure developments. She emphasized the importance of different sectors in Guyana, particularly the mining sector, in contributing to the country’s economic growth.
Minister Vikram Bharrat announced the distribution of 200 mining blocks in Mahdia Sub-district 2 and addressed key issues affecting miners, such as land accessibility, ensuring that small miners have access to their own land. A total of 1,000 mining blocks were awarded to small and medium-scale miners, benefiting approximately 25,000 to 30,000 miners across Guyana. This event underscores the government’s commitment to supporting the mining community by improving land accessibility and providing valuable opportunities for small and medium-scale miners, thereby fostering sustainable development and growth within the sector.
