The village of Masakenari, Region 9 has acquired a truck through the Amerindian Development Funded ADF’s Community Development Plan CDP (GRIF) project which will provide a trucking service in Deep South, Rupununi.

The Kanashen Trucking Service will be located in Parabara given the fact that Masakenari is accessible by boat and air only.

Beneficiaries are gold miners and small businesses in Kanashen and surrounding villages among them Parabara, Aishalton, Shea, Awawanau, Achiwib and Karawadanawa.

Before handing over the truck Vice President and Minister of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs Sydney Allicock encouraged the Village to make full use of the vehicle while ensuring accountability and transparency is at its optimum.

Toshao of the village Paul Chekema assured Minister Allicock that systems are already in place to ensure the service offered will be a professional revenue generate package aimed at vastly improving his village’s economy.

Three drivers/mechanics have already received training while awaiting their certificates and licenses to operate the newly established system which will be closely monitored by the Village Council and the established Community Management Team.

Meanwhile, the village’s proposed prices for hire from Parabara to the respective communities are:  Parabara – Aishalton $95,000 (one-way), Parabara – Lethem  $180,000 (one-way) and Lethem – Marudi Mining area $ 200,000.
